Paw needs an ear infection

These were the words uttered by our 5-year old regarding Shan's Dad. The television was turned up very loud. People standing next to Shan's Dad were yelling so that he could understand them (yet he still couldn't). Emily finally said, "Paw needs an ear infection so he can hear better." It took a moment for use to realize what she was TRYING to say. How "hearing aid" becomes "ear infection" to a 5-year old, the world may never comprehend....

The phone rang at 1:00 in the morning on Thursday. It was Mom. She had called the ambulance and was waiting for them to take her to the hospital. Sick again. I managed to grab enough coherence to get out of bed, throw on some clothes and a hat, and drive my truck up to her house. As we waited for the ambulance, the vomiting was pretty rough. The ambulance finally arrived around 1:30am, and the medics got Mom on a stretcher to load her up. She wanted to go to Texarkana. The medics said her insurance only paid for the closest medical hospital. We've decided that is a load of crap, but at 1:30 in the morning, we were not coherent enough to argue.

We went to the hospital in Hope. At 4:00am, Mom sent me home because the hospital was going to do a CT scan on her, and she said I should get some sleep. I left, and crawled into bed around 4:30am. Honestly, I have no idea how I made it home. I know I should not write something like that, given the number of friends and family that read this, but it's over and done now, so there it is. I slept until 6:30 or 7, I think. I don't remember much, other than Shan taking Tyler to school, and I went back to bed for a while.

Sometime around 7:30am, Mom called to tell me to come get her. Evidently, the Hope hospital could not give justifiable reasons to Texarkana to transfer Mom. So, her options were to stay there, get admitted to the Hope hospital and have IV fluids until they talked to her surgeon in Texarkana, or she could go home and call the doctor to make an appointment.

Around 8:30 or so, Mom called me to let me know her appointment was at 2:00pm that day. I hung out at the house, adding things to my sales list on eBay and checking my recent sales.

At 12:45pm, I went up to Mom's and we left shortly after that. On the way to T-Town, there was an awful accident with cars flipped over, cars in the median... It was bad and had traffic backed up for miles.

We made it to the appointment, and basically the doctor said she was dehydrated. She could be admitted to the hospital but she would have to have a tube in her nose. That was the end of THAT conversation! We left the doctor, got some gas in the truck, then spent the next HOUR just trying to leave Texarkana. Evidently, there was another accident heading BACK toward home. I thought I knew a shortcut. Family members may remember an 8-hour shortcut my Dad took us on once in Colorado... All I can say is that I know I got my ability to turn a shortcut into a much longer adventure honestly....

Oh, and we eventually did make it back home after a few stops for medicine, groceries and burgers (for Mom's dog).

I've seen the list of suspected users in the Mitchell Report, and I have to say, there are some pretty big names on the list. But, there are also players that most people may have never heard of. This suggests to me that even with "enhancers," a player must be GOOD at playing ball. Period. I don't care how hopped I was, I would never even come close to smacking a 90+ miles-an-hour pitch ANYWHERE, let alone screaming for the fences. Talent will never be replaced by drugs.....

Seeing as it is 12:40am and Tyler has a 9:00am basketball game, I am hitting the bed. Good night, and thanks for stopping by!

  1. Like they say...From the mouths of babes. It is so amazing how their little minds work and how they interpret things! It's great how you post the things she comes up with. That way they will live forever. I will never forget the time you were served dessert at grandma's and it wasn't in the same dish as everyone else's and you said "I be goddam" We all know where that came from!
I can't wait for your mom to get here! I promise to take reall good care of her. Do you think she is anxious about the holidays without your dad? Ya know, like it's a psychological thing? I know he wasn't there for Christmas last year, but this year's different. Just a thought. It will be different for ALL of you.
I think the whole steroid thing is blown way out of proportion. If they don't want players to use them, then they should make them illegal like heroine and cocaine, not just cause the sports industry doesn't want them used, but because the government has made them illegal. And if it was going to be a big deal, it should have been a big deal when it was done, not now that homerun records are being broken!
