Shaneileen, taking Chik-Fil-A literally, and a few pics...

I realize many folks may know this, but I just learned that Shania Twain's real name is Eileen Regina Edwards. So, had she kept her name, would she have sold anywhere near as many albums? I doubt it. So, if I ever decide to share my musical talent with the world, I guess I'd better come up with a new name... hmm...

In India, a farmer was having his chickens eaten at night. In order to catch the culprit, he set up a little sting operation. Turns out, it wasn't the Jackal... It was one of the family calves... Yes, as in COW!I know it's hard to believe, so here's the scoop... Maybe he read a few too many of those "Eat Mor chikin" signs....

As it turns out, police in Hurst, TX, had to rope a bull that had found its way to a McDonald's drive-thru... I guess he figured if the Indian calf could eat chicken, he could have a burger.... :-)

I also read about a woman who had gotten lunch at Subway, went out to the cab she was taking, told the cabbie she forgot her cookie and went back into the store. Apparently, she pulled a gun and demanded money. When they didn't give it to her, she took a cookie instead... Hey, I just pass this stuff along to you, man.... I couldn't make it up if I wanted to....

DISCLAIMER: HERE BEGINS THE PICTURE PORTION OF THIS POST. It's a lot like, but not entirely the same as, one of those 'vacation slide shows' of yester-year.... If you continue past this point, don't say I didn't warn you....

This is that crazy bird that keeps attacking itself in my mirrors....

Here is a couple of pictures of a statue in Iraq near where my Dad is working... Notice the Benz in the one pic... :-)

Here is a picture of one of the roads... Check out the cement walls that surround just about everything there... Dad said this was the bus they have to catch in order to head to the PX for groceries, etc...

This is the door that leads to the 'office' where my Dad works... The sign reads, "NO LOCAL National Cell Phones Allowed." I'm pretty sure that means you CAN have 'national' cell phones (whatever that means) but not local ones. But, really, the whole thing is pretty confusing for this brain's popping... :-)

As you can see, they take the threat of attack very seriously. This is a "Duck-N-Cover," which is something akin to the "Kiss-N-Rides" they have in major cities over here (in U.S.). As you can see, they are common, as there is one further away in the shot, er uh, picture...

This picture was taken from the window of Dad's "hooch." If memory serves, he said the door across the way leads to where he works... Of course, he might have said it LOOKS LIKE the door to where he works... :-)

This is Dad and a guy he met (who happens to be from Gurdon, which is all of 15 minutes from Prescott) standing in front of a RHINO (personnel transport).

Here's a shot Dad got of an incoming chopper:

A picture of the (or one of the, maybe) observation tower for the area (airport?). BTW, DAD is the one leaning, not the tower... :-)

Oh, yeah, did you remember to change your clocks?

America goes insane... Or something like that...

What in the world are the American Idol voters thinking!? The biggest shocker on Idol, for us anyway, was Sabrina. Holy smokes!? How in the world did she get fewer votes than Haley!? HALEY!? Good heavens, people! Even SHE knows Sabrina should have been in there.... As for Sundance... Well, he had a couple really bad sets, and I guess they finally caught up with him. I hate to see him go, though, because I think he is one of the unique ones on the show. BUT, to keep Sanjaya!? Please, someone, explain to me why in the world anyone would vote to keep him on there?? What does he have that America wants to see more of!? Someone... anyone, please clue me in here.... UGH...

As for Antonella... Well, did you notice that she didn't even get to TALK to the judges!? Heh-heh! Like my mother used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say..." Oh, wait, my mother never said that... Well, someone once told me that... :-)

Jared? Well, he got the boot, and really, in my eyes, it's no big loss. Nothing made him stand out, even though he did sing pretty well... As they say on Idol, he just didn't have "it." I think I had it once... No, wait, that was tonsilitis.... and the doctors took them out... Guess I lost it... Explains a lot, doesn't it? :-)

Well, here's tonight's updated Idol chart... As sad as some of it is....

That crazy cardinal has decided that one mirror is not enough. Tonight, it attacked the bird (er, itself) in the driver's side view mirror... I think it's getting braver... I was actually outside working on Tyler's bike and the bird basically ignored me (Hmm, you may need to see the above 'lost it' comment). Stupid bird. Cute, stupid bird... :-)

Speaking of working on bikes, do you have any idea how long it has been since I took a socket wrench to the bolt on the rear wheel of a bike? Yeah, me either! But, I couldn't help feel like a kid again when I flipped the bike upside down. As a kid, I (along with my friends) would play "Ice Cream Man" with our bikes - turn the bike upside down and turn the pedals and gears to make the wheel spin, thus making ice cream! :-) Man, what memories there... Of course, someone would try to stick their hand into the "ice cream machine" and get it caught in the spokes... Man, were we brave or stupid? Take your pick - we were prolly a little of both...

Some things pop in my head, and I wonder if they are better left there... For instance, earlier today, I was thinking back to my Dungeons & Dragons days (I guess because of the Oblivion I've been playing). We always had one person in the group that we called DC-TDO... The TDO stands for "The Door Opener," and I'm not at liberty to say what the DC stood for, other than to say the C stood for Cheese. Anyway, this person's character was always used to open doors, spring traps, etc. No one wanted to be DCTDO for the night. See? The stuff that pops in my head....

That, of course, reminded me of the Motley Crue concert my friend and I went to. See, we decided that since we had free tickets, we would dress up as preppy as we could and go to the concert. Why? I dunno, some weird thing to do when you're a teen-ager, I guess. We had a lot of fun, and managed not to get our butts kicked (which still amazes me). Of course, we managed to drive the wrong way up a one-way down ramp... There is nothing like the sight of a parking lot full of cars coming at you with headlights blazing... Well, maybe the white light people talk about when you die.... :-) It was a very similar experience, I'm sure.

Do you know what your first memory is? The earliest thing I remember is sitting in a yellow VW bug we had. I think my parents said I was about 2 when we had it. Why or how I remember it, I have no idea.... But, there ya go... Take a minute and think back... What is the very earliest thing you remember? I just hope it isn't what you had for lunch yesterday... :-) Wait, you DO remember what you had for lunch yesterday, right?

Cowboy WHO?! - Idol Girls - Sherman - And Sneezy Chickendunkin...

Cowboy U finished its season the other day. I thought for sure Bobby was going to walk away with the title of cowboy. I don't care what happened at the rodeo, Bobby is truly the hardest workin' city-slicker that show has seen yet. So, who won, you may be asking? How about Malcolm.... Yeap... Malcolm... The man who can't ride a horse to save his life... Turns out, he can stay on a bull long enough to steal enough points to grab the glory... I hope they re-work the scoring next season. If anything, this season's rodeo showed the serious problems with the current format. Well, Bobby, in my book, YOU are the Cowboy U cowboy...

Once again, the girls of American Idol showed they just flat out kick the guys' butts... This was a very hard week to pick ONLY two guys to get voted off... So, we didn't pick just two... We laid it all out. We'll see how we fared on Thursday. Gina finally showed the world her rocker-cool self, which I think is about time. Chris S should have no problems sailing through to the end, as long as he keeps picking the 'right' songs to sing! As for what America does with Sanjaya and Antonella - well, let's just hope the folks who took their 'stupid pills' aren't dialing... yeesh...

I answered one of 'those' emails today... You know, the one that says to pick certain letters of your name to come up with a whole new name? The one I did was a variation of the Captain Underpants generator... Well, mine came up "Sneezy Chickendunkin," which I decided would be a great name for a character in a video game... LOL :-)

Dad sent us some pics from Iraq! I'll post them on here before the weekend. Why? Why not! :-) Ah, and I will also post a picture of the little red bird that has been tormenting my truck since Christmas Day. Seriously. We woke on Christmas Da and saw this red bird sitting on my truck's passenger side view mirror. How cute! And then, it attacked...well, it's reflection in my mirror... Again, how cute! :-) Okay, now, it has been, what, almost 3 months? And still, when I park the truck, the little birdie comes out, perches on my mirror, and proceeds to attack itself... er, well, its reflection anyway... :-) I don't mind, except for the mess it leaves on my door and the residue it leaves on the mirror... I am afraid the thing will eventually break the side mirror. I don't know if you've sued a cardinal lately, but I have a feeling I won't get much in the settlement.....

In case you haven't tried it, you can simply point to a link in any of my posts and get a SNAP! screenshot of the site in the link! It is WAY COOL! :-) (If I do say so myself....)

Before I go, I just have to say that ever since Sherman Pore appeared on Idol, I cannot help but think of him and his story each time I watch the show. He is the man who had a petition to audition for his wife, who had passed away just a few days before he got to go on.... If you missed it, here is a site that has several links to the video, plus some very touching comments...

Talkin "White Trash..." and a new DST...

The Apprentice finally came back after a couple weeks of hiding out. I had seen previews, so I knew there was a double firing, but DAWG, whodathunk Derrick would get fired for being... well, stupid... Mr. Trump fired him because during the Board Room, Derrick said something about just being 'white trash' in relation to the folks that were at the Lexus event. Now, I understand what he was TRYING to say - that his economic background was not that of those who would be tooling around in Lexus cars. But, Mr. Trump took immediate offense to it, and there was no getting out of it for Derrick. Naturally, Jenn fought to let Derrick's departure be the only firing of the week, but Trump would have no part of that! :-) And, without even leaving the boardroom, he had her fired, too!

The worst part (to me) was how Randle (sp?) kept interrupting Mr. Trump. I'm all for speaking up when it's your turn, but to interrupt your BOSS!? Hello!! Shan said she kept expecting Mr. Trump to turn around and fire Randle... Now, THAT would have been awesome! :-) One can only dream...

Speaking of dreams, we've been watching "You're the One that I want" (Grease audition show). It's getting better each week, though, like Idol, America had some very odd tastes in who'd they like to see as Danny and Sandy. What's different about this show is that the three judges pick among the lowest two Dannys and lowest two Sandys to stay... So, even though America votes, the judges still have a very heavy hand in who remains on the program. I'm sure when the show was being negotiated, David Ian said, "Look, I am sinking a ton of my OWN money into this production. there is no way I am going to let a simple vote decide this!" At first, I didn't like the format. But, it has grown on me over time...

So, yes, there it is in black and white - I am a "Grease" fan. I remember seeing it as a kid, singing and dancing to the album as a kid, the whole shebang. I still like to watch it now. Some movies tell a story that sticks with you. That's one of them.... For me anyway...

Daylight Savings Time changes this weekend, much to the chagrin of I.T. professionals everywhere... Frankly, I think we live in a day and age where we could abolish the silly thing altogether. There is less light during the winter. It's a fact. Get over it. Monitor and adjust, as they say in education.... So, anyway, remember to turn your clocks back... or forward... whatever... Watch the news, they'll tell you what to do. Me? I'm just the guy running the updates on a bunch of Windows XP machines... :-)

Even though Battlefield 1942 would not run on the Q1, Unreal Tournament 2004 runs fantastically! :-) I know, I know, this is a work computer... But, for the purposes of demonstrating its graphics and processing capabilities, I need to showcase all kinds of different software... right? Well, that's my story anyway... :-)

Falling Idols and a new Nashville Star??

What in the world is going on with Idol? How is it that SANJAYA got more votes than flippin' AJ, and even WORSE is that Antonella is still around! Excuse me!? I'm going with the theory that a bunch of guys are voting for Antonella because of her pictures all over the 'net.... 'Cause she sure can't sing! UGH! Well, the latest incarnation of the chart is here, in all its partly-depressing glory.... AJ gone? Alaina gone!? Seriously, is this last season of Idol? Has it become such a joke that talented people are getting cut because other contestants 'look better?' No thanks... Of course, I'm still gonna watch.. I'm not THAT crazy! :-)

Okay, last year, I was a huge Kelly Pickler supporter. I am not a fan of "Red High Heels" and even less so of the video. But, when she came out to sing her new song (the title of which I don't even remember), I was dumbstruck. She looks awful. Bad hair-do thing and she looked about 40 in the outfit she had on. Now, it's not bad to look 40 when you ARE 40 or older, but she is what, like 21 or something? It was bad... REALLY bad... And, yeah, I know, here I am talking about her 'do' and her fashion, like I know anything or care... But still... DAWG, no, no, no man.....

America has a new Nashville Star - Angela Hacker... Well, at least Zac was runner up, so he'll get a deal for sure. And, I hope DSR knows that he has a deal for sure! I don't know why the votes went Angela's way, but it was great that she called out, "Bay (her son), we got a new car!" during the final song... Very cute! :-) Zac's latest rendition of his "If it wasn't for the Whiskey" was too fast, too 'rockabilly' this time around. Man, when he sang that last time, it was emotional and touching. This was over-done, no emotion, no teary-eyed tribute. I hope when he records it for release, he keeps the original, soulful version.

Have you watched any of the "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" Some of those questions are tough... And then, some are very easy (or I think so anyway). I would go for the super-hard questions first though... Get those out of the way (and use 'cheats' accordingly), then sit back and rake in your cool million... :-) I should try out for that show.... Who knows... :-)

I forgot to mention my new 19-inch widescreen LCD computer monitor the other day! I had been wanting a new monitor for a while and was planning on buying one. Then, Shan surprised me and bought me a Proview-19w! It is AWESOME!! :-) Of course, games are absolutely kickin' on it!! :-) And, it makes writing my blogs easier to see too! Funny how I like my 7-inch LCD Q1 and the 19-inch widescreen at the same time... I'm such a nerd! :-)
